Spring has arrived and my life seems balanced equally between work in areas that embrace both the creative practices of visual art and music.
For instance, at the same time as putting music-related artwork into a group exhibition in Salisbury, I am writing, singing and recording backing vocals for a set of songs destined for an album release later in the year.
At the same time as the 7th 'Chris White Experience' CD is being released - for which I do the original (and some of the digital) design and artwork and some co-writing, I have been asked to write an artist spotlight piece for the art collective, Plain Arts.
It got me thinking that this crossover area has always featured in my work. Many years ago I created two scores based on two works by Land Art / sculptor Richard Long and was privileged to meet him later in connection with the work. I also had twelve collages animated to be used as stage backdrops for live performances of 'Odessey and Oracle' by The Zombies - I toured and performed with the band on all of those special 'O&O' tours.
I have always thought that the creative spark lights up all creative output, 'crossovers' can connect and enrich works however we choose to combine disciplines, often with surprising and motivating results.
The creative spark doesn't limit us - we do that ourselves!
Time for a Spring Clean in the music and art studios and allow for a bit of new thinking, Springtime spontaneity and flow.
Be inspired.
