I moved from London to Salisbury nearly five years ago which has happily coincided with being able to commit myself to art and music full time.
My visual style is semi-figurative and abstract and I work in a wide variety of media – collage, cut-outs, acrylic, watercolour, pastel and monotypes – whatever I feel communicates the subject best. Anything can inspire me, but huge influences in my work come from music, nature and human nature.
‘Know Your Crazy’ - a book of my drawings expressing human emotions, was published in 2020 – this led on to an online book club which started during the covid epidemic and ran for two years.
I work with both art and music and anywhere in that crossover area between. One such crossover project resulted in a meeting with artist Richard long after I created two musical scores from two of his artworks. Another is the artwork I do for CD and 12” vinyl album covers and booklets in a series showcasing the back-catalogue of songwriter Chris White. We are just about to release the 7th volume of ‘The Chris White Experience’ now.
Chris (husband, co-writer, co-director and co-worker!) was an original member of the 1960s band The Zombies. I sang with The Zombies on all their ‘Odessey and Oracle’ tours from 2007 onwards. We toured the UK, Europe and America. Twelve collages I made based on the songs from the ‘Odessey and Oracle’ album were all animated for use as stage backdrops for the live shows and have since been published in a coffee-table book. (A poster print of these 12 images will be in April’s Plain Arts/ SGA Joint Spring Exhibition above Salisbury library).
Staying with music, I write, arrange and sing backing vocals for a number of artists and am a director of family run company, Sunfish Music, dealing with other aspects of music such as copyrights and publishing. I was a member of the London Bulgarian Choir for 5 years which created opportunities such as singing at Glastonbury Festival, Westminster Abbey and the BBC3 Electric Proms and as well as backing bands Doves and British Sea Power.
Art-wise, currently I am making a new body of work using mixed media – mainly collage, acrylic, pastel and ink.
